He's seen with last year's MC Mark Pavilons.   By Mark Pavilons Hot on the heels of the Toronto International Film Festival, King Township is hosting its own star-studded affair. The King Township Food Bank is greeting stars and rolling out the red carpet for its second annual Sip & Savour fundraising event, with the theme “Hooray for Hollywood.” Reserve Thursday, Oct. 15, from 6-9 p.m. at Nobleton Lakes on your social calendar. You could meet Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chaplin and even some real Canadian celebrities. Canadian film and TV icon, and vice-president of external affairs for ACTRA, Art Hindle, is acting as MC for the evening. King's “Diva in the Rough” Catherine Hughes jumped at the chance to perform. Hughes, who recently released her fist CD, will treat visitors to her beautiful voice, singing some movie classics. She'll be joined once again by her partner Don Guinn on keyboard. The duo have a unique and hilarious repartee that's truly entertaining. In keeping with the night's theme, Hughes will be singing some movie favourites as well as some classic songs of the golden era. Margaret Hastings, the Food Bank's fundraising director, is putting the finishing touches on the decor for the evening, which promises to wow visitors. The theme will permeate the room and each of the elegant food stations will derive inspiration from a famous movie. The pulled pork sliders will take on a Field of Dreams feel; while The Godfather will oversee the antipasto table. The expanded oyster bar will have a Titanic feel to it, while the sushi bar will take on an air of the 2005 film Memoirs of a Geisha. The martinis will definitely be “shaken not stirred” in keeping with the 1977 Bond film, The Spy Who Loved Me, starring Roger Moore. For those with a sweet tooth, the world of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory will be sure to please. What would a Hollywood party be without Bogie? The wine and beer station will take on the look of Rick's Cafe Americain, from the 1942 classic Casablanca, starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. The main stage will be dressed as a classic stage. You can expect Hughes and Guinn to come up with some great songs and perhaps a medley or two. There will also be some great silent and live auction items on tap, including Toronto Raptors tickets and a special performance donated by Hughes herself. Tickets for the event are only $40 per person. One of the platinum sponsors for the event, Scotiabank, is matching all ticket sales, so guests are encouraged to purchase them at either the Nobleton or King City branches. This event is the Food Bank's largest individual fundraiser, so please help make it a success! Residents are welcome to come as you are, or dress up for the cocktail party of the year. Get out your tux, or ball gown, dress up as your favourite star or character and join in the fun. The King Township Food Bank provides one week of food to approximately 200 King residents every month. Registrants range from people living alone to families supporting young children and aging parents, and include people with disabilities, as well as those dealing with unemployment and underemployment.
