The municipality has 10 combination snow plow/sander trucks and two graders. Staff report that each designed route takes roughly eight hours to complete, following a major snow storm. King Township maintains roughly 325 kilometres of roads with an annual budget of $595,000. York Region is responsible for the maintenance of approximately 1,100 kilometres (or more than 4,000 lane-kilometres) of main roadways across all nine Regional municipalities. During the winter months this includes snow removal, sanding, salting and use of salt-brine to help prevent ice build-up on roads. All Regional roads have designated snowplow routes assigned and Regional staff or contractors working on behalf of the Region plow or apply sand/salt as required during winter conditions. York Region patrol vehicles are equipped with sensors that gage the temperature of the road surface and better identify when salt is needed when the air temperature is hovering around the freezing point. --------------------------------------------------- Images: --------------------------------------------------- Excerpt: When the harsh winter weather hits, rest assured King Township staff will hit the streets. --------------------------------------------------- Post date: 2015-01-07 09:08:17 Post date GMT: 2015-01-07 14:08:17 Post modified date: 2015-01-14 09:17:04 Post modified date GMT: 2015-01-14 14:17:04 ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Export of Post and Page as text file has been powered by [ Universal Post Manager ] plugin from www.gconverters.com
