Power outage didn’t spoil school fundraiserPasta lunch volunteers included (l to r) Carrie Goehle, Lisa Kokelj, Cristiana Deachman, Michele McNally, Jean Donaldson. Not shown were Michelle Suomela, Alex Simonato and Shirley Goz. By Michele McNally Nobleton Public School served a pasta lunch Dec. 12, and volunteers didn't let anything slow them down. The lunch featured Mrs. D's Famous Meatballs. Cristiana Deachman had, once again, prepared her very special sauce and meatballs. In fact, Cristiana made 550 meatballs and an estimated 30 litres of sauce! Just as the volunteers were beginning to boil the pasta, the power went out. Undaunted, they had the school barbecue brought out of storage and carried on. The lunches were all served on time. As an added incentive this year, a crazy Pasta Hat was worn by the teacher of the class with the highest participation. Ms. Dal-Barco was the lucky “winner.” All of the profits from the lunch are being donated to the Nobleton Christmas Drive, along with funds raised by the EcoClub and Me To We Club, as well as the annual donation from the School Council. In total the school is donating more than $1,000. The school wishes to acknowledge the generosity of John's No Frills in Nobleton for providing the pasta and drinks. The students of the EcoClub and Me To We Club held their annual Candy Cane-Gram fundraiser. For a nominal cost, students pay for a candy cane to be sent to friends and teachers. As one can imagine, this is a very popular fundraiser! A big thank you goes out to Zehrs Bolton and Fortino's on Highway 27 for their generous donations towards the candy canes. The school is also grateful to Mastermind in Woodbridge and Landmark Cinemas 7 in Bolton. Both businesses donated gifts and movie passes for a prize draw which further raised funds for the clubs' efforts and the Nobleton Christmas Drive Fund. The Student Council, along with Mrs. McLaren, ran “Toonie Tuesday” on Dec. 9. Students were encouraged to bring in a toonie or two that day. All funds collected go directly to the Nobleton Christmas Drive. Nobleton Public School is very fortunate to have wonderful, caring students who donate so much of their time and energy for the betterment of the planet and giving back to others. If you would like to find out how to contribute to the Nobleton Christmas Drive, which, over the years, has helped hundreds of children have a Christmas, you may contact Mary Buchanan at 905-859-5456.
