Holland Marsh Soupfest draws record crowdsBy Mark Pavilons A nice, crisp fall day enticed visitors to the annual Holland Marsh Soupfest, enjoying the best of local produce. An estimated 1,500 people (a record number) sampled some unique and interesting creations from soup-makers, chefs and restaurants from far and wide. Taking top honours for the Restaurant/Caterer was Tweedy's. They served up a delicious Caribbean pumpkin beef soup. The top Culinary Institution this year was Georgian College. New this year was the People's Choice Award, sponsored by Yelp. The recipient was Nobleton's Raffaele's Cantina, with its creation, containing beer. Pastor Richard Bodini, of the Holland Marsh Christian Reformed Church, took the prize as best farm/home soup, with his cream of roasted tomato. Some of the participants this year hail from Centennial College, St. Joseph CES, Petits Chefs Academy, Muskoka & District Chefs' Association, Arbour Pub & Grill, Locale, Raffaele's, Naked Cafe, Cardinal Golf Club, My Secret Chef, Simply Souper, Tin Roof, Pegasus Hospitality Group, Cancun Mexican Grill, Humber and Georgian colleges. The event was presented by the Township of King, in partnership with the Holland Marsh Growers Association and The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury. |
