King offers up its own unique brew

By Mark Pavilons
The smell of fresh coffee is one of the most recognizable scents on the planet.
For coffee drinkers, there's nothing like a good cup of java.
To satisfy your craving, there's a new brew, thanks to a unique initiative of King Township.
The King Township Community Blend Coffee is Smithsonian Certified bird friendly, meaning migratory songbirds we know and love have a better chance to survive while on their wintering grounds in the tropics. The coffee is organic, fair trade and full shade canopy grown, supporting sustainability and bird conservation, farmers, workers and the environment we all share.
The purchase of King's Community Blend Coffee will go towards funding projects and initiatives for a more sustainable King!  Some local projects and programs include:
• Discounted compostable food service items for community groups at events and meetings.
• Rain barrel and composter sales.
• Wildlife restoration projects.
• Habitat planting projects.
• Trisan Centre Wildlife Lookout.
• Tall Grass Prairie at Cold Creek Conservation Area.
• Workshops and events promoting sustainable living.
The Community Blend Coffee is available for $13 (340 g) a bag at the Trisan Centre, Nobleton Arena or at special events held throughout the year. It can be pre-ordered to ensure freshness at environmentalstewardship@king.ca or by calling 905-833-5321.
The coffee beans are sourced and roasted by Birds and Beans Inc.  at www.birdsandbeans.ca.
