Financial manager wants Ward 5 council seat

By Mark Pavilons
A political newcomer wants to help get King's financial house in order.
Anna Roberts, a manager in the financial sector, is passionate about her community. She lives and works in King and is a community volunteer.
“With my considerable experience in finance, I understand the importance of financial responsibility and sustainability. I will work towards ensuring that the needs of the community are met, while the financial house is kept in order.
“I believe I can contribute to creating a vibrant community where the needs of residents and local businesses can be met, while maintaining the rural nature of our villages and hamlets.'
Roberts pointed out that in Ward 5 and throughout King, she'd like to see policies in place to help local business thrive, and welcome new business by helping them in an efficient and cost-effective manner. The Community Improvement Plan initiative is a good beginning, she said, and effective promotion of shopping locally can also make a difference. A strong business community can help to hold the line on taxes, she pointed out.
“More opportunities need to be available for young people to build a future in King. The needs of seniors have to be addressed, in order to ensure that those who have given so much to establishing the King community can enjoy quality of life as they watch future generations take the helm.”
She knows the importance of an “open door policy” with staff and customers.
“It is vital to the morale of the people around you to create a positive environment knowing that their concerns, issues and their voices are being heard! I will work collaboratively with the mayor, councillors, staff, residents, and businesses to ensure that priorities of Ward 5 residents are being addressed.”
Roberts believes she can make a positive difference in the community.
“I am interested in the financial stability and sustainability of King, with a major focus on the importance of balancing our books, while ensuring we maintain the quality of services required; that both the social and economic needs of the community are met in ways that respect the rural environment.”
Roberts is married with two adult children. She  volunteer at local food drives each year, fundraises for community initiatives and volunteers at the King City Lodge. When she worked in Nobleton and Vaughan, she spearheaded an annual event to support the Hospital for Sick Children.
