Nobleton resident David Boyd has announced he will be a candidate for the Ward 2 (Nobleton) seat on King Township council in this fall's municipal election.
This will be the first venture into politics for the 35-year-old father of two.
“This is my first time, “ he said. “Pretty excited about it, of course.”
“I just want to be part of the changes that are occurring in the town core,” he added.
He said truck traffic in the area is a major concern. Other areas he said he would want to address include promoting volunteerism and community organizations; enhancing parks, recreation and community culture; being part of community improvement plans; and finding ways to assist seniors and provide ways for them to be active in the community.
Boyd is a firefighter in Toronto, and is an acting captain with the King fire department. His wife Besy and children William and Emma have lived in Nobleton, where he grew up, since 2008.
“I grew up in Nobleton and I knew there was no better place to raise our family,” he stated. “It is my greatest hope that our kids feel the same way when they are faced with the decision of where to raise their families.”
“Being a part of council is one way I can do my part to support the values that I hope William and Emma gain by growing up in Nobleton,” he added. “Values like caring about your neighbour, a sense of safety, and a sense of friendship. They are the values that help us to help each other, and be kind to one another.”
He added his campaign platform is based on community involvement.
Boyd was speaking confidently of his chances for election on October.
“I feel that I'm the best candidate for the job,” he said, adding he hopes people who agree will get out and vote election day.
