King golfer wins title at Copetown WoodsJames Wyndham-West By Mark Pavilons Junior golfers were treated to one of the newest championship courses in south-western Ontario when the Boston Pizza-presented Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour's two-day tournament at Copetown Woods Golf Club in Copetown, played Aug. 23-24. King City's own James Wyndham-West, 16, won the juvenile division and a coveted spot in the IMG Academy Junior World Match Play Championship in Florida. The event was also a qualifier for the MJT International Players Championship in California. The opening day's misty, cool weather was followed by day two's better conditions on the meticulously-groomed course. Wyndham-West fired rounds of 74-69 (143) to win Low Overall and the MJT Juvenile 15-16 division title. Wyndham-West claims the coveted spot into the IMG Academy Junior World Match Play Championship this December. Finishing second in the division was Jarrett Fitzpatrick, 15, of Caledonia, who shot 73-76 (149) followed by Owen Dick, 15, of Toronto, who carded 78-76 (154) for third. In the Girls division, the winner was 16-year-old Kate Johnston of Ayr, who showed how she has improved this past year with solid scores of 89-87 (176). Tatiana Hulan, 16, of London, carded 93-90 (183) for second place and rounding out the top three was Natasha Stasiuk, 16, of Oakville, who shot 109-92 (201). Fourteen-year-old Angelo Giantsopoulos of Richmond Hill, won his third MJT Bantam 14 & Under division title with fine scores of 73-75 (148), besting Alex Wyndham-West, 14, of King City (78-74=152) by four shots. Ryan Trocchi, 14, of London, scored back-to-back 78s (156) to place third. Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour members have one final stop at Grey Silo Golf Club in Waterloo on August 30th and 31st where they can earn valuable MJT Order of Merit points in the race to earn invitations to the prestigious MJT Boston Pizza National Championship at The Legacy Golf Resort in Phoenix, AZ, on November 14-16, 2014, where a number of Division 1 college coaches will be in attendance. Previously, local golfers asserted themselves at the recent Boston Pizza-presented Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour's MJT Nationwide Series at National Pines Golf and Country Club in Barrie. The two-day tournament ran July 26 and 27. Alex Wyndham-West carded 80-80 (160) to claim the MJT Bantam Boys 14 & Under title and his first win on the MJT Tour. Finishing eight shots back in the division was Parker Lee, 13, of Oro Medonte, who shot 82-86 (168) followed by Jack Ferguson, 14, of St. Thomas, who carded 86-85 (171) to finish in third place. Golf Town Comeback Awards for best second day improvement in score went to Trevor Costello of Schomberg.
