We get better with age. For rising star David Wontner, the sky is literally the limit. The King City native has already amassed an impressive acting resume, and he's always looking for new projects to hone his creative skills. He's currently working on the film “El Lobo,” from writer/director Stephane Dirschauer. Wontner is also working on an album that he's hoping to record soon. “Music is certainly a passion of mine and always will be. Acting can be a time consuming career, especially when your looking to really break into the industry and make your mark. So, we'll see what the future holds. “I just want to keep focusing on the next project, doing the best possible work I can do and everything else will take care of itself.” Wontner said King City is literally where it all began. His childhood memories centre around growing up on a big property, the forest right behind them close to the railway tracks. “We had massive bon fires most nights and I spent most of my time outside. There weren't a lot of kids around so it was often just me and my sister. It was the perfect place to grow up.” Wontner started acting in high school when he was 15 years old. He quickly decided it was what he wanted to do as a career. He got his start doing small roles on kids shows such as “Debra, Really Me, Wingin it,” and “My Babysitter's a Vampire.” He transitioned into roles on “Breakout” (Discovery/National geographic), and “Being Erica.” “I was lucky enough to have gotten a role in Guy Maddin's ‘Keyhole,' which premiered in Toronto at TIFF in 2011, where I was able to work with the one and only Isabella Rossellini, Jason Patric (Speed 2, Narc, The Lost Boys), Udo Keir, Kevin McDonald (Kids in the Hall). This would have to be one of the highlights of my career.” Recently, Wontner wrapped up filming on writer/director Pat Mills's new project “Guidance,” where he plays the role of Desmond, a tough guy bully who ends up coming around in the end and not being such a bad guy. Wontner said he has a lot of goals and aspirations, things he wants to accomplish and experience, places he'd like to go and live. “This is what keeps me moving and gets me out of bed in the morning.” He admitted he's lucky to have had the support of his family right from the beginning, something that makes a huge difference. “You always want to make your family proud and at the same time do what you love to do, so I'm blessed I can do both.” He said his grandfather  was a big inspiration when he was little. He was a very entertaining, funny, and gifted man. He would perform on and off in small local shows. He was also very musically talented. “This all rubbed off onto me at a young age.” He's inspired, as are many other actors, by the movies and TV shows he watches. “I always feel a rush after seeing a great film or episode and all I can think about is getting back on set.” He doesn't have the secret of success in the film industry. “I work hard to be great at what I do – I enjoy the risk and reward aspect of the industry. I think, at a certain point, you have to really think about which roles your doing. I never would have thought to turn down a role when I first got into the business; I've done it now multiple times.” Bringing energy to the set every day is a key ingredient. “Sometimes film shoots can take their toll on you with the insane hours and, depending on the script/character, the emotional demands. If you don't bring that energy day in and day out, you're letting a lot of people down, including yourself.” If you'd like to follow him, visit his Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/dawontner?filter=1. --------------------------------------------------- Images: --------------------------------------------------- Excerpt: Wisdom helps us all evolve.
