It wasn't your typical trip south for March Break vacation.
Local skaters represented King at Buffalo's Pepsi Invitational Tournament from March 14-16.
The Schomberg Red Wings peewee 2 LL team faced its first opponent Friday afternoon – the Valley Bruins of Syracuse and went on to win its first game 3-1.
Game MVP was Jacob Klissouris.
Day two saw the Red Wings in two games.
The first against the Hanover Falcons saw the local boys down 4-1 at the end of the second period.
Schomberg roared back to take the game with 5 unanswered goals in the 3rd period with the final score 6-4.
Game MVP was Graham Van Halteren.
Later that day the team pulled together for two periods without a goalie, and hung on to take a 6-0 win against the Whitby Spitfires. The MVP was Jonathan Brunato, the last line of defence.
This brought the peewee 2 team to the championship game on Sunday afternoon against a very competitive team from just outside Syracuse, New York – the Camillus Cougars.
After the playing of the two national anthems – a true international finish – the teams took to the ice.  At the end of the 1st the score was tied 1-1.
Then Schomberg took control and finished the game 3-1 for the win and the championship. The MVP was Zachary Staden.
The best part was that the boys had a great time and exhibited true sportsmanship both on and off the ice.
Thanks are extended to the awesome leadership from the bench staff, coaches John, Rick, Trainer Steve, and to manager Lisa-Marie for arranging entry into the tournament. Players and parents definitely feel it was an awesome way to end a great hockey season.
