On Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 10 p.m. officers were called to a break and enter in progress at a residence in the area of Highway 27 and King Road in King Township. The 9-1-1 caller described to police that someone had just smashed a patio window and there was a man running from the home. At the same time, the Toronto Police Service contacted York Regional Police to advise they were investigating a stolen BMW X3 from the City of Toronto that was being tracked by the vehicle's on-board security system in the area of Highway 27 and King Road. Officers located the stolen vehicle on Sonoma Boulevard, which is in the area of Islington Avenue and Rutherford Road in the City of Vaughan. While approaching the vehicle officers saw two men walking towards the car, which quickly turned and ran. With the assistance of Air2, the suspects were located hopping fences through backyards, then hiding between two houses. While officers on foot were working to apprehend the suspects, they were flagged down by a citizen who said that he had just been robbed by the suspects. The suspects eventually walked out to a police cruiser and were arrested without incident. Within the stolen vehicle police found a loaded .38 calibre handgun, several wallets and a purse that are believed to be stolen. Police charged Tariq Maitland, 21 of Mississauga and 22-year-old Jamil Wong, also of Mississauga. They've been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, break and enter, robbery, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, knowledge of/unauthorized possession of a firearm, firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition.
