Mayor's Message - Residents encouraged to get involved in community events

Mayor's Message – By Steve Pellegrini

Steve Pellegrini
Wow I can't believe we are in the middle of the fall season and Christmas is less than two months away. Where does time go?
This is the first of a monthly column graciously provided by The King Weekly Sentential newspaper. I will be utilizing this opportunity to highlight what's happening in our great municipality.
For those who are on my email distribution list, this is just one more way to ensure I communicate to all King residents. I will continue to send out emails intermittently, too.
We are undergoing an Official Plan review project. The purpose is to develop a new, overarching Parent Official Plan for the Township, which will replace our outdated individual Community Plans, and to complete the Greenbelt Plan and Growth Plan conformity exercises required by 2015. A special meeting of council, open to the public, will be held on November 28, to discuss revisions that may be required as part of King's Official Plan review to be held at the beautiful Country Day School in the auditorium (further information is on www.king.ca).
We are beginning the 2014 budget process and there are numerous opportunities for you to have input: through online surveys or at any of the budget open houses. Look for details on www.king.ca. For the last two years our budgets and budget process have received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). This award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting and represents a significant achievement.
There are two Remembrance Day ceremonies that take place in our Township. The first is on Sunday, Nov. 10 at noon at the Kettleby Cemetery Cenotaph and the other is at the Trisan Centre on Nov. 11 at 10:30 a.m. Please bring your family out and show that we have not forgotten!
Our local Speed Skating Club is holding its first annual meet on Saturday, Nov. 16, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Trisan Centre.
The meet is a combined event, serving two separate groups: Ontario Speed Skating Association and Special Olympics Ontario – Ability Competition.
As always, I encourage you to get involved in our community, come out and participate in and enjoy our beautiful community, and don't forget to shop local. For more details on services, events and other news in the Township, please go to our website www.king.ca.
