CDS girls’ rugby team captures CISAA championship

The Country Day School's senior girls' rugby team secured their ninth straight CISAA championship with a 29-12 win over Trinity College School (TCS) recently on Hawksworth Field.
An impressive stretch of play carried CDS to a 19-0 lead on the strength of first-half tries from Hayden Brown, Merissa Scott and team captain, Jordyn Stafford. Meredith Langston also booted a pair of long conversions. TCS refused to quit though and answered with a try of their own before half-time.
They then scored once again early in the second half to shave the margin to seven points. McKinley Hunt scored a try with just six minutes to go to widen the gap, and it was clear that TCS, despite a spirited effort, was destined to run out of time.
The game ended fittingly for Merissa Scott. Her try, like so many of her others, saw her run some 60 meters down the sideline, leaving the TCS defence in her wake.
Congratulations go out to our other graduating champions: Julia Brown, Mac Connett, Cassie Diotte, Samantha Lee, Megan MacGregor, and Naheeda Rajmohamed. The rest of the crew will be back to shoot for 10 in a row next year.
