Photos by Jeff Doner The Alzheimer Society of York Region hosted their annual Walk for Memories at Seneca College in King City this past Sunday. It was a sunny, yet cool day for the participants who walked the beautifully scenic route. Funds raised from the Walk will be used to support local programs and services.  Last year the Alzheimer Society of York Region assisted more than 1,800 families with their journey. Between 2012 and 2020 the incidence of Alzheimer's disease and other dementias is expected to grow by approximately 43% within the Region so the support of the community means more than ever. Alzheimer's disease is a progressive, degenerative brain condition with no known cause or cure. It is characterized in the early stages by declining memory, judgment and learning ability; in the middle stages by personality changes with a more pronounced loss of memory; and finally, a profound loss of all higher brain functions with the person affected requiring intensive nursing care.
