A Main Street Christmas marks its 22nd year and its popularity continues to grow. Last year the event, drew some 6,000 visitors and organizers are hoping to top that number. The event runs 3-9 p.m. and includes two parades. The street will be full of entertainers, musicians, and food vendors. New this year, the Snowflake Princess “Bella Snow” will be strolling down Main Street in her beautiful LED gown, twirling her magic LED hoops.  Try your hand at curling, compliments of The King Curling Club.  Take your photo with Santa and feed his reindeer. Watch a sculpture being created out of ice.  Shake hands with the Grinch! The craft show will take place in the Community Hall. Some of your old favourites as well as many new crafters will be on hand for you to purchase Christmas gifts. The second floor café will be open, selling coffee and treats and offering a craft for children, compliments of York Pines United Church.  Also new this year, Rev. Paul Rumboldt, of York Pines United Church, will be singing and playing Christmas tunes on his guitar. As usual, the Santa Claus Parade will commence at 4 p.m., and the Farmers' Parade of Lights will start at 8 p.m. Anyone interested in participating in the Santa Claus Parade should contact Wendy-Sue at wendysue52@live.com.  Any farmers interested in joining the Parade of Lights should contact Dennis at dandylandholsteins@gmail.com.   During the Parade of Lights, “Rob on the Road” from FM105.9 The Region, will be live to air, providing Christmas music during this spectacular, not to be missed parade. As the old saying goes, “it takes many hands to make the job light.” A Main Street Christmas volunteers are needed for tasks such as  working the gates, assisting with the parades, setting up the street and the community hall the day before and the day of the event, and many more. Even if you only have an hour or two, every bit counts to helping with the organization of this special community event.  Students earn high school community hours when they volunteer their time.  If you are interested in volunteering – before and/or on the day of – please contact Karen by email at amsccontact@gmail.com.
