The King City Secondary Lions met the Bill Crothers Colts on the football field at an inopportune time.
Picking up their third win in a row and riding to the top of the York Region Athletic Association conference, the Colts defeated the Lions 22-10 last Friday on their home field.
After a scoreless tie through the first quarter, Aidan Patton and Francisco Pirri each scored second quarter touchdowns for the Colts to take a commanding lead that they held onto for the remainder of the game.
In other YRAA action, a battle of last place saw the Villanova Knights earn their first YRAA win in history over the Markham Marauders after a late fumble broke a deadlock.
With the score tied 6-6, Oreste Peruzza scooped up a dropped ball and ran thirty yards for the major in the fourth quarter, with Villanova completing the convert for a 14-6 win.
The undefeated Huron Heights Warriors, consistently ranked in the top ten in the nation, continued their winning ways with a 62-7 drubbing of the St. Brother Andre Cardinals.
A 41-0 lead at the half was built by quarterback Colin Grant, as well as Jayden Thompson and Mike Strumos, who each had two touchdowns.
The Lions’ loss leaves the team in the middle of the York Region pack, holding onto a 1-2 record, the win coming in late September in a 16-13 win over St. Brother Andre.
They return home on Friday for what could be a boost to their post-season probabilities, hosting the winless Markham. Kickoff is at 1:30 p.m.
A win could set up a thrilling late season match-up between the Lions and St. Max Kolbe Mustangs of Aurora next week, whose undefeated streak was ended last week by the Warriors of Newmarket and now sit just two points up on King City.
The final game of the Lions’ schedule comes one week later against the 1-2 Villanova College.
