A Nobleton teen will bust a move on the world stage.
Amanda Rea has been chosen by Team Dance Canada to represent Canada at the World Hip HOP Championship in Graz, Austria. Auditions for this Canadian National Dance Team brought some of the best dancers across Canada.  Amanda qualified at an audition in Ontario.
The International Dance Organization (IDO) is a World Dance and Dance-Sport Federation, with memberships in more than 90 nations, six continents with more than 250,000 dancers. The best dancers from around the world will be competing for the World Championship title.
The World Dance Championships will be held in Graz, Austria Oct. 19-23.
Dancers train up to seven days a week – they are as flexible as gymnast, graceful as figure skaters and just as dedicated as any Olympic athlete.
Amanda has been training very hard throughout the summer and these last few months, and recognizes that this honour does not come easy.
This competition is an opportunity for her to show “people what I can really do as a dancer, where my strengths are, and also to always persist and never give up.”
She said she’s really proud, as a competitive dancer to be competing in this championship because it’s something she’s aspired to for a while now. “Knowing that I can actually fulfill a dream is very exciting. I’m really passionate about dance, it really is my life.”
Dance has been a big part of Amanda’s life.  From the age of three, she began her dancing and training at The Dance Zone. She followed in her sister’s footsteps, and has taken her love of dance and turned into a passion that is incredible.  Amanda has won many titles and awards, but the greatest achievement is having the privilege to dance with Team Canada.
“It’s so exciting knowing that my country chose me to represent us.  This is an amazing country we live in and I’m so proud to be dancing for Team Canada. I love dancing and hopefully this is just the start of something big for the future.”
While Amanda’s excited, she’s also really nervous. The competition will be tough.
“I will try my hardest, but I really don’t know what we’re up against.  This experience is very new to me, even though I’ve been exposed to competitions at an early age. Every competition I’ve gone to is so different.”
Amanda is hoping to learn to be a better dancer and to always remember to try her best. She’s delighted to be travelling to a different country and watching others dance, “so we can inspire each other. As any competition, you always gin new perspectives.”
Team Canada Dance National Director Mrs. Bonnie Dyer states that Canada has been quite successful in all dance disciplines at the World Championships and this is mainly due to the high standard of training that local studios offer.
“It is also great to see the best of the best in Canada that come from various studios all working together as one team with one goal, and that is to represent Canada,” she said.
While most teens are doing other activities during the summer, this very talented youth group, gladly gave up their summer holidays, as well as their weekends, to train for this exciting experience and a chance to represent Canada on the World Stage. Since there is no government support for Team Canada Dance, each member had raise their own funds to attend the World Championships.
