Canada Day brought King together

July 12, 2016   ·   0 Comments

This month’s Canada Day celebration in Kettleby attracted nearly 300 residents from all over the Township, who gathered in the spirit of the occasion for good fun, good food and a spectacular display of fireworks at dusk.
I have to point out that the reason this event was such a success is because of the many hours of work done by volunteers, as well as donations from sponsors.
Sponsors included Heritage Canada, The Township of King, Burman Energy, RBC Dominion Securities, Pops’ Kitchen, Boadwin House Contracting and Motive Media as well as the Young and Hogg families. We thank them all.
The list of volunteers is even longer, and includes all the members of the Kettleby Village Association’s board as well as dozens of others. To list names would invariably mean that someone got left off the list. You know who you are, thank you.
Special mention must go to Josie at Dorio’s Bakery for the cake and volunteer firefighter Lee Joliffe who kept everyone safe and lit the display with great aplomb. Ann and Joe Rastin of Victory Fireworks designed and deeply discounted the main event. Thanks also go to MP Deb Schulte and Councillor Debbie Schaefer who were both in attendance.
It is often said that this Township thrives on community involvement and volunteerism, and rarely is it more in evidence than it was on that wonderful evening. Even the rain stopped on time, so we have to thank the weather, too.
I tip my hat to all of these folks, and the wonderful residents of King who came out to the best birthday party in the Township.
Just wait for Canada 150 next year. It’s going to be a heck of a party.
