By Jake Courtepatte The CISAA (Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association) season has come to a close, and with it comes some hardware for student athletes at Villanova College in King City. With a long history of success at the regional level in team sports, Villanova captured their first championship banner of the year in late May when the senior boys' slo-pitch team earned its first league title. After suffering their only loss of the season to the undefeated powerhouse Hillfield-Strathallan College just two weeks prior, and with both sides cruising to the title game, the Knights earned their revenge over the three-time champions 17-14 to capture the title. Villanova's girls' soccer programs certainly found success on the pitch later the same week, with three of the four age groups reaching the CISAA championship match. The under-12 team was the next to bring home a banner by winning all four games in their final tournament to capture CISAA gold in the program's first year. The junior squad followed suit, capping off an undefeated season by earning two shutouts in league playoffs, a 5-0 win over Havergal College followed by a 10-0 win over Appleby College in the championship game. Competing at the top level in independent school soccer, the senior team finished the season with an impressive 5-1-1 record, reaching the title game with a 5-0 win over Bishop Strachan School. There they met the undefeated Appleby College, falling in a close match 3-2, but still earning a spot in early June's OFSAA tournament. Two wins and two ties in pool play put the Knights at the top of their division in the AA tournament in North Bay, pitting them against FJ Brennan Catholic School of Windsor in the quarterfinals. There the Knights fell in a close 1-0 game. Outside of team sports, sprinter Arielle Tessier continued to put her school on the map in track and field by capturing gold in the CISAA senior girls 100m dash, finishing over one second ahead of her nearest competition in May's meet. She earned double gold with another top finish in the 200m, besting fellow Knight Adrianna Letros by over a second, while Letros went double silver by also capturing second in the 400m event. --------------------------------------------------- Images: --------------------------------------------------- Excerpt: The CISAA (Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association) season has come to a close, and with it comes some hardware for student athletes at Villanova College in King City. --------------------------------------------------- Post date: 2016-06-29 15:49:11 Post date GMT: 2016-06-29 19:49:11 Post modified date: 2016-08-24 09:35:24 Post modified date GMT: 2016-08-24 13:35:24 ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Export of Post and Page as text file has been powered by [ Universal Post Manager ] plugin from www.gconverters.com
