King will be a whole lot greener after securing a $25,000 grant to go towards the development of a new park in Nobleton.
King was awarded the grant by CN EcoConnexions “From the Ground Up” program – in partnership with Tree Canada and Communities in Bloom – which helps municipalities and community groups plant trees and enhance green spaces.
The grant will be used to increase the vegetation within Tasca Park in Nobleton by restoring the area around the lagoons. This will include planting around 100 trees, 300 shrubs and additional ground cover.
“Thanks to the grant, we’ll be able to plant a significant amount of trees and shrubs around the lagoons,” said Chris Fasciano, Director of Parks, Recreation and Culture. “The vegetation will create a natural buffer between the park and residential housing.”
“I’d like to congratulate our staff on securing the grant,” said Mayor Steve Pellegrini. “This entire project is a great example of what can be accomplished when different organizations work together for a common cause. I’m positive the residents of Nobleton, along with the rest of King Township, will enjoy the park for generations to come.”
Tasca Park, located on Parkheights Trail, will be more than 20 acres in size and will feature a splash pad, soccer field, basketball court, fully assessable playground, trails, a skate park and more. There will be a “soft” opening June 28 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. which will include a ribbon cutting and a first look at the park.
The park’s official grand opening takes place Saturday, Sept. 10. The event features a 3 on 3  basketball tournament, skate park demonstrations, Lions Club BBQ, and much more.
David Boyd, Ward 2 councillor, said he looks forward to the park’s opening and noted there are many sponsorship opportunities for the grand opening.
“We’re looking for community partners to work with on making the grand opening something to remember,” said Boyd.
There are several sponsorship opportunities available for the grand opening, including event sponsor, food truck sponsor, 3-on-3 basketball sponsor, band sponsor and Friends of Tasca Park.
