The Juvenile Schomberg Red Wings are not used to losing. Entering the OMHA finals this week, they hadn’t in over a month.
They were reminded of what it felt like in Game 1 against the Cayuga Stars, falling behind early in the first-to-six-point battle for the provincial title. A game riddled with offence, the Wings fell 6-5 on the road to a Stars team led by a hat trick from Jake Dafoe.
The reigning OMHA champs had a much smoother road to the finals than the Stars, sweeping both their first round match-up and semi-final match-up, and taken to five games by the Loyalist Jets.
Cayuga, meanwhile, has taken five games in each series to advance.
Wings fans can catch the first home game of the finals Friday night, an 8 p.m. puck drop at Trisan Centre in Schomberg. The series shifts back to Cayuga for Sunday, and if necessary, will pick back up at Trisan next Thursday for Game 4.

Knights down by two

The only other team in King remaining in OMHA contention is the peewee A NobleKing Knights, whose path fares no easier after a Game 1 and Game 2 loss.
Facing the Grimsby Kings in the provincial championship, the Knights dropped game one 2-1 at Nobleton Arena on Friday and Game 2 by a score of 4-2 on Saturday.
With Grimsby just two points from victory, the Knights are in a do-or-die situation awaiting Game 3 this Friday at Nobleton Arena. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m.
A victory would send the series back to Grimsby the following day, and if necessary, the series could return to Nobleton Arena on Sunday for Game 5.
