Nobleton speed skater to compete at national games

Nobleton speed skater, Arik Kimber, won a gold medal at the Ontario Speed Skating Central Regional meet, held in Newmarket Feb. 20.
Arik is a skater with the local King Speed Skating Club, and is also a skater with Special Olympics Ontario.
He first got involved in the sport of speed skating when he was 11 years old. It’s a sport where he has learned to challenge himself, and he focused on improving his own personal racing times.
In speed skating, Arik has made many new friends and found acceptance. He has experienced success in this sport with his hard work and training efforts!
In 2014, Arik joined Special Olympics Ontario as a speed skating athlete. He skated successfully in the qualifying race in Quinte and earned a spot on the regional team.
In 2015, Arik participated in his first Special Olympics Provincial Winter Games, in North Bay. It was an incredible experience for him. Accompanied by his service dog, he traveled with his team and lived in the athlete’s village during the Winter Games. Over two days of hard racing, Arik did very well and earned four gold medals. His performance also earned him an opportunity for consideration for Team Ontario.
During the Summer of 2015, Arik was officially named on the Team Ontario roster. He earned a spot to travel to the 2016 Special Olympics National Winter Games. The Games will take place in Corner Brook, Newfoundland from March 1-6 and Arik is eager to represent his province and skate hard.
Arik is currently fundraising to help cover the personal costs that are assigned to each athlete as part of Team Ontario. He is required to contribute payment for travel and expenses and has additional expenses for specialized equipment and personal travel gear.
