In just their first year of McGarrigle Cup eligibility, the 2002 girls King City Royals team has proven to be a strong contender in the York Region Soccer League as they were crowned McGarrigle Cup Champions on Aug. 15.
The Royals began their McGarrigle Cup challenge back on June 11 against Glen Shields, which yielded them their first victory with 4-0 win. They continued their pressure by winning 8-1 against LSSC in the next round, earning them a spot in the semi-finals against Aurora.  Despite Aurora’s efforts to eliminate the King City Royals, they were able to hold on in PK with a 2-1 win. The 2002 King City Royals faced UMSC in the finals. The Royals were able to maintain possession throughout the game and come out as the champions with a 4-0 victory against UMSC.
The Royals continue their YRSL league play in hopes of maintaining their 1st spot position in the YRSL standings.
