Roads need attention

July 14, 2015   ·   0 Comments

We recently enjoyed two road trips, a few days in Ottawa and a day trip to Durham, Ontario.
We avoided major highways on both occasions.  One of the more pleasant aspects of these trips was that we travelled on roads that didn’t rattle our car or our aging bones.
Property taxes are high in King Township. Money is nevertheless tight. I get it.
However, the general condition of the roads, especially those around Schomberg, is distressing.  The patching is poor and simply doesn’t take care of the problem.
We generally travel well under the speed limit. And now we learn that the work planned for Church Street has been seriously delayed; a tendered cost that surely was accepted long ago is now considered to be too high.
In the meantime, the 8th Concession has been resurfaced twice and my understanding is that the 16th Sideroad,  between Dufferin and Jane, is scheduled for resurfacing.
Doesn’t it appear that the affluence of the homeowners on these roads has had some influence?
By the way, we have replaced both front wheel bearings on our (late model) car in the past two years.
