Batting cancer out of the park

June 30, 2015   ·   0 Comments

It was 1, 2, 3 strikes you’re out as both all-star and amateur teams gathered on?Father’s Day weekend to hit it out of the park at the 3rd Annual Pink Tree “Home Run for the Cure” Slo-Pitch Softball Tournament & Charity BBQ in King Township.
This year’s event brought together individuals and families from York Region, Toronto, Caledon and as far away as Barrie and Orillia. They came to play, cheer players on and enjoy great BBQ food, refreshments and pastries. Children were entertained with a variety of fun activities, including an inflatable soccer field, mini-putt and face painting. But the highlight for the kids, without doubt, was the bouncy castle. There are many businesses who function by purchasing commercial bounce houses and hiring them out, but this particular company was fantastic and the children al thoroughly enjoyed themselves on the large bouncy castle. They are a great addition to events like this.
The friendly competition was filled with fun, humour and a few bumps and bruises, but players continued to vie for their team to take first place and be declared the champions. In the end everyone was a winner as they all came together for a common goal –?to “Bat Cancer out of the Park!”
Over $4,000 was raised to help the Pink Tree Foundation establish a Cancer Wellness & Retreat Centre in York Region and to help advance Cancer research in support of the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.
The Wellness and Retreat Centre will be a comfortable and relaxed drop-in support centre where individuals, families and friends who have been touched by cancer can go. Those affected directly or indirectly will be able to meet up with others who have been in their shoes and have informal discussions to get answers and learn skills that will help relieve some of the stress that is part of the Cancer journey. Free of charge workshops and programs will also be offered to address the psychological, physical, emotional and spiritual well-being of those who are living with cancer. Educational information and sessions such as Managing Your Health after Cancer, Tranquil Yoga, Healthy Eating, Expressive Art as well as Exploring Nature and Gardening.
With a holistic approach to healing, this Cancer Wellness & Retreat Centre will provide a place and opportunity for people of all ages to open their hearts by connecting with others who have already dealt with similar issues. A relaxed place where people can spend time with new friends, share experiences and explore what is really on their minds while deepening their understanding and feelings about cancer.
Anyone interested in donating or volunteering their time for this cause can contact Pink Tree Foundation at www.PinkTreeFoundation.ca or call 416-731-4241.
