King Township is inviting the public to a celebration next Thursday, welcoming the Pan Am Torch Relay into King City.
The celebration will run from noon to roughly 4 p.m. at King City Public School.
There will be plenty of activities for all ages. The King City Lions will hold a charity BBQ and there will be games and a bouncy castle for the youngsters. In conjunction with the King Township Library, there will be a birds of prey exhibit.
Local children, as well as King City P.S. students, will be painting one of the horse statues that’s part of the Headwaters Equine Leadership Group’s “Headwaters Parade of Horses.”
The torch is coming from Aurora and it’s scheduled to arrive in King City at roughly 3 p.m.
Two outstanding citizens will be the local torchbearers. Peggy Belcher and Alessandra Benazzi will carry the torch through King. After it leaves King City, it will head east on King Road and then north, to be passed on to others.
Mayor Steve Pellegrini will offer some inspirational words.
Excitement is mounting for the event.
“I am very excited that the Township of King has been selected as a celebration community for the Toronto 2015 Pan An Games Torch Relay. These events foster community pride and spirit,” said Mayor Pellegrini.
