Support Schomberg juvenile Red Wings at victory parade

April 15, 2015   ·   0 Comments

Coming off an unprecedented season of success, Schomberg Minor Hockey has confirmed its intention to ice a juvenile rep team next season, to defend the Provincial OMHA Championship and International Silver Stick Titles won by the ream this past season.
To celebrate the Juvenile Red Wing victory, Schomberg Minor Hockey and the Schomberg Firefighters’ Association will be honouring a long-standing Schomberg tradition going back decades, by parading the provincial champions through town in the village’s 1929 antique fire truck, which will then drop the team off at this season’s team sponsor “In This Corner” for good food  and celebration.
Anyone wishing to offer congratulations to the Red Wing juvenile team can meet the players at the Trisan Centre on Saturday April 18 at 3 p.m., where they will be boarding the antique fire truck.
Prior to their victory parade, the Red Wing Juveniles will be holding a prospect/tryout skate for any players interested in joining the defending championship team next season. This initial prospect skate is scheduled for April 18 between 12:30 and 2 p.m. Any inquiries can be directed to Red Wings returning coach, Bruce Leonard.
Overall, Schomberg Minor Hockey had a tremendous year, with no fewer than 5 new championship banners being raised to the rafters of the Trisan Centre.
In addition to the Juvenile OMHA Championship, Local Red Wing teams brought home two regional York-Simcoe championships at the midget and novice rep levels, with the novice reps proceeding to win the York-Simcoe/Lakeshore Challenge Cup this past weekend, ending the season as Central OMHA Champs.
The association’s novice and atom 2 local league teams also won Simcoe region championship titles, and the bantam 2 local league team clinched the Group 2 Simcoe region championship. Honourable mentions go out to the Red Wing atom rep team who made it all the way to the OMHA semi-finals, and the Atom 1 local league team who were Simcoe region finalists.
Overall, it’s been a banner year for our local minor hockey teams, both on and off the ice, and players have already begun to register online for next season, with rep tryouts starting over the next two weeks, and a number of summer skill development camps being offered to eligible players who register early.
