A home-cooked meal right off the grill warms you all over. And that's just what the owners of the new restaurant were hoping for. Sunset Grill is literally led by a total family effort behind the counter and in the kitchen. Local dignitaries were on hand to welcome the owners and cut the ribbon during a ceremony Monday morning. Most people have heard of Sunset Grill's popular all-day breakfast and the bounty that awaits. That's what lured co-owner Matthew Cimino to open the franchise, along with his mother Marisa Ortins and other family members. The generous helpings, simply yet satisfying menu and pride of ownership shows on the face of every customer who leaves the restaurant satisfied. “You can't beat the value,” Cimino said, adding all of the employees take initiative and pride in their work. Cimino spent several years in the food business through Cara and the idea for a restaurant came up during a family talk. He did some research and liked the concept behind Sunset Grill, which is continually growing throughout Canada, with 20 more restaurants planned for 2015, from Barrie to Brampton. The reception has been great so far, and the restaurant was busy during the March Break. They are working well together an “so far we're getting along,” Ortins noted. The local outlet is a smaller restaurant, accommodating roughly 36 patrons. It's a cozy atmosphere and already the owners are looking at growing. They are hoping to open a patio and obtain a liquor licence to usher in the summer. Freshness is the key ingredient to all of Sunset Grill's items. The value is unparalleled and the burger, according to Cimino is “fantastic.” The juice is freshly squeezed and the coffee, exclusive to Sunset, is ground and served up fresh. The family, Ortins pointed out, is in it for the long-haul. “We going to be doing this for a long time,” she observed. While Marisa is well versed in home cooking, she found manning the kitchen at the Grill is physically demanding. Having her family around her is the best feeling. That, and the friendly customers from King. “It's your own. You work hard and reap the benefits,” she said. Cimino agrees. Waking up every morning and coming to your own place is great. They've already met a lot of great people and some have become regulars. Leading the charge with owners Cimino, Ortins, Michael Cimino and Victor Ortins are chef Tharshan Thananayaham, Jessica Ortins, Julia Morassutti, Vanessa Cimino and Rita Romaniuk. In 1985 founder Angelo Christou opened Sunset Grill's doors for the first time in the Beaches area of Toronto. Armed with the basic info that “Fresh is Tastiest,” Sunset Grill quickly developed long lineups of loyal customers. With huge popularity and consistent service, it quickly became the place to be for the best breakfast in town. Their food and preparation methods are 5 star inspired and quality is never sacrificed. All menu items are cooked fresh to order using healthy methods: flat top grills, pat dry bacon and nothing is ever deep fried. Everyone's day should start with a decent, nutritious breakfast. The popular items at Sunset Grill include omelettes, French toast, pancakes, waffles, toast and sides. They're also known for their towering sandwiches and famous hamburgers.
