In an exciting semi-final match up on March 15, the Schomberg novice rep Red Wings took the series against Georgina Blaze with a 3-2 win.
It was a loud and energized crowd of family and fellow Schomberg teams who came out ringing their cowbells and filling the Schomberg Trisan Centre with cheering that was deafening.
In true goalie style, Hayley Dagenais rallied the team to another edge-of-your-seat ice battle with brilliant clutch saves.
The first period was dominated by the shooting barrages of both Justin Caruk and Nathan Watt.  These wingers set the tone for a game of rapid shooting and hard pressing which Georgina struggled to respond to.
Centre forward Keaton Walsh delivered on three goals throughout the match on stunning break aways. Defensive rushes came from Pax Degli-Angeli and Grady Duggan who rocketed down the ice before collapsing the Georgina defence together into their own crease.  Roman Porcelli followed with his own defensive rush and zone control against the visiting team.
The third period was controlled by left-winger Aaron Kay and James DeCarvalho who dazzled the fans with their lightning agility and hard carving into the corners. Luca Peca received the admiration of the fans and his team mates with flawless penalty killing and offensive to defensive pressure.
The control of the Schomberg zone with heads up play and passing accuracy by defencemen Davis Forrest and right-winger Avery Tribe enabled the winning goal by Keaton Walsh in the final period.
Thanks go out to back up goalie Blake Bowler who has continued to support the team since being called up from his younger Tyke team. Following the game, the players received calls from Noah Harbridge and Dillian Cook, who were cheering the team on from their vacation, watching the play by play messages coming from Schomberg.
Schomberg finished 3rd in York-Simcoe League with a 16-6-8 record, and is matched with the Aurora Tigers as the championship series got under way Wednesday (results unavailable at press time).
