Pond hockey tourney in aid of classic fire trucks

February 25, 2015   ·   0 Comments

The stage is set for the 2015 Restoration Classic Pond Hockey Tournament March 1.
This tournament is being organized and hosted by the Schomberg Firemen’s club, which is a loose association of firefighters from King Fire and Emergency Services Station 36. The club owns 2 antique fire trucks – a 1929 International Lorne Fire Pump and a 1940 Ford 2 Ton Fire Truck
These trucks are owned by the club and not by the Township, which means all maintenance, licensing and insurance costs are raised strictly through various fundraising efforts.
Unfortunately this year the trucks require a substantial amount of work to keep them on the road and the monetary requirement to restore/repair these antiques is more than our club can handle at this time.
We are hosting this tournament to raise the much needed funds to keep our trucks in action. These antiques are a staple in our community attending many charitable events, members and non-members weddings, classic car shows, and even acting as Santa’s Sleigh during Schomberg’s Main St Christmas Parade!
The club is the original owners of the 1929 truck, which was purchased brand new that year and was in service until Hurricane Hazel in 1954 when sediment destroyed the pump. The 1940 is undefeated in Antique Fire Truck “Fast Water” pumping competitions!
All items received will be raffled at the event on March 1, and any sponsorship money collected will be used to cover overhead costs (insurance, prizing, food etc.) with any remaining funds going directly to the antique trucks.
The tournament will take place at Spray Lake near Ansnorveldt.
