For the second year in a row, the teams are meeting up in the Georgian Mid-Ontario Hockey League's semi-final best-of-seven series. The Kings, eventual 2014 league champions, got the best of the Cougar team last year in a season that saw them utterly dominate the competition on route to a 30-6-8 record. This year, the match up is much less one-sided; the fourth-ranked Kings took down their regular season equals the Caledon Golden Hawks to earn a semi-final berth. Meanwhile, the Cougars have flexed some muscle in the 2015 playoffs by taking down the third-place Huntsville Otters in the first round, capped off by a six-goal performance at the Trisan Centre last Thursday. Opening Win With little time for rest and Game 1 already in the books, the Cougars have jumped out to an early lead with a 6-3 road win on Monday. It was an uneven game from the get-go as Schomberg jumped out to a 4-0 lead mid-way through the game. Forward Brandon Savoy added another two-goal performance to his post-season stat card, and has now racked up five points over his last four games. John Gage continues to lead the team in points, finishing where he left off in the regular season. He earned a goal and an assist in the contest. Derek Neilly, JP Crescenzi, and Brandon Yorke added two points each of their own. Taylor Ewart earned the win for the Cougars and has been putting together an impressive performance since giving up five goals in Game 5 against the Otters. He made 43 saves Monday night, and is likely to get the nod again in the future. It's a tight schedule for the Cougars this week, with three games lined up over the weekend. Hometown fans can get a peek at some more playoff action this Thursday at 8:30 p.m. or Monday at 7:30 p.m., with both games going down at the Trisan Centre. In other semi-final action, the top-ranked Alliston Hornets kick off their series this week with the Orillia Terriers. The Terriers are a surprise second-round contender after upsetting the powerhouse Stayner Siskins in six games last week.
