Seven young athletes will get the chance to represent King City in the Provincial Starskate Championships next month after owning the podium at the Central Ontario level.
They took a total of eight medals home with them, in four different competitions in Milton, the culmination of over seven years of hard work.
Jade Danko-Dunstal and Danyal Tahir took home gold in senior bronze dance, while Sarah Ryan and Shaan Tahir earned gold in Junior Silver Dance.
Andrea Muscalu and Jordan Lam took the silver. In the Freeskate category, Lam also earned gold in Senior Silver Men’s.
Julia Ferreira rounded out the medal count with a bronze in Silver Triathlon.
The dance team, coached by Brenda Ferreira and her group of coaches, have only been skating together for two years.
“They don’t practice a lot together, as they’re working on their individual skating programs as well,” said Ferreira.
Lam, currently in Grade 12, has been with the King City Skating Club since he was nine years old.
Julia Ferreira, who first put on skates at the age of two, joined the program not long after.
“Triathlon is a combined total that determines the final results,” said Brenda Ferreira. “Julia has to skate three programs, and has to stay on top for all three.”
The skaters are now practicing to take the ice at the Cassie Campbell Community Centre in Brampton on March 14-15, skating for Central Ontario.
