Families will feel the warmth this Christmas, thanks to the Nobleton Christmas Drive.
The Nobleton charity got a boost last week from the Nobleton Lions Club, whose members helped spread some holiday cheer.
Mary Buchanan, founder of the drive, received a cheque from the Lions last Friday – a $2,000 boost to help outfit local children with winter clothes.
Buchanan says the focus has recently shifted from toys to clothing and winter accessories, as a good amount of toys now come in from different toy drives during the season.
“Snow suits, boots, underwear, socks … it’s basic necessities that we’re really looking for now,” she said.
With the cause now in its 19th year, Buchanan is happy to report that it has experienced significant growth during that time.
“We have a lot of help now. For the first 10 years, I was short every Christmas. But the Lions have been supporting us for a while.”
The Nobleton Lions have been a part of the cause for around 16 years, and were the first community service to come on board.
“They came to our aid pretty quickly,” said Buchanan. “They’ve been a big part of the program, and I’m thankful for that.”
“It’s a good thing she does,” said Lion Joe Tasca. “We’re more than happy to help. If there’s a family in town in need, we want to help.”
