The NobleKing minor peewee A hockey team prepared and served dinner to the residents of Peel Youth Village on Thursday, Dec. 4.
Peel Youth Village (PYV) serves a community of approximately 1,600 people in the Region of Peel through residential and community services.  PYV is a multi-use development which incorporates a transitional housing program for 48 homeless youth for up to 364 days, an after-care program for youth transitioning out of the residence and a two-storey community centre.
PYV is committed to helping improve the quality of life for youth with housing needs by fostering independent living skills and providing inclusive spaces for Community engagement. PYV is owned by the Region of Peel Housing Corporation on operated by Supportive Housing in Peel (SHIP).  SHIP is committed to the promotion of Healthy Housing, the implementation of best practices in service provision and the development of housing that enhances quality of life of tenants and benefits surrounding communities.
In addition to serving a hot meal prepared by team head coach Rob De Rose, and NobleKing past-president Danny Macedo, the minor peewee A players presented each PYV resident with a gift bag.  Through product donations received from the players’ families and from the generosity of product donors NobleKing Minor Hockey, CST Arwin, Fusion Hair Lounge, and Smiles First Family Dental & Specialty Clinic, the players were able to present each resident with a gift bag filled with shampoo or body wash, shaving cream, disposable razors, deodorant, socks, soap, dental care items, feminine products, snacks and NobleKing t-shirts and long-sleeve polo shirts.  Two large boxes of excess NobleKing apparel and hygiene products were also collected which will be distributed at PYV and to families at its sister facility, Angela’s Place.
After presenting each of the residents with their gift bag, the players served the residents water and juice bottles, a plate of pasta with homemade sauce, sausage and peppers, veal parmesan, salad, and a dinner roll. An overwhelming amount of baked goods were donated by team parents providing the residents with an extensive selection of desserts to cap off the meal. Some of the staff of PYV were also on hand to enjoy the meal and were overwhelmed by the generosity of the young Knights.
A big thank you goes out to the other generous sponsors of this event.  Cash and gift card donations were received from the Clark family, Maniatis family, McPhillips family, Selvaggi family, Kevin Riley, Allure Window Décor Inc., and Waste To Go Inc. which were used to purchase meal ingredients and as monetary donations to the residents. A special thank you goes out to Rob and Sabrina Critelli of Sabrina Foods, who donated crushed tomatoes, pasta, sausages and drinks for the meal.
Lina Termini, manager of Peel Youth Village, took a few moments during dinner to thank all of the players and team management.  The following statement she made resonated with everyone on hand:  “Often times this age group of 16-30 year-olds at PYV is forgotten around the holiday season and we are truly thankful that the NobleKing minor peewee A team chose to remember us at this time.” She then turned to all of the residents and reinforced to them: “You ARE remembered, you are not forgotten …”
Mrs. Termini held a meeting with the residents of PYV immediately following the team’s departure, at which time she informed the residents that excess sponsorship funds of $550 had been donated to them. Having been impacted so greatly by the evening’s generosity, the residents collectively decided to donate the excess funds to another group less fortunate than they – a true example of the spirit of “paying it forward.”
