Back-to-back all-candidates’ meetings in King

By Mark Pavilons

King Township voters will have a chance to see their candidates in action, at back-to-back debates.

Concerned Citizens of King Township (CCKT) is organizing its first all-candidates' meeting to engage the public in learning about candidates and important issues in King Townships.

The meeting will be held Wednesday, Oct. 15 from 7:15 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.  The meeting is to be held at the Pottageville Lions Hall located at the 7th Concession and the 18th Sideroad (1 kilometre south of the Lloydtown-Aurora Road). This meeting will include candidates running in Wards 3, 4 and 6, plus a few words from Mayor Steve Pellegrini who has been acclaimed.

They will present another debate Oct. 20 with candidates from Wards 1, 2 and 5. It runs 7:15 to 9 p.m., at Villanova College library.

CCKT will provide a clear schedule outlining the amount of time each candidate opens with and closes with, plus instructions for questions from the floor and for the approach to how the candidates answer.

The lineup of candidates includes:

Ward 3 – Linda Pabst, John Workman. Ward 4 – Bill Cober, Greg Locke. Ward 6 – Avia Eek, Simon Lloyd.

The King Chamber of Commerce invites you to join the businesses of King, in a question and answer session, regarding the future of,  and the retention of, the business community in the Township.

Their all-candidates' debate takes place Thursday, Oct. 16 from 8 to 11 a.m. at Nobleton Lakes Golf Club.

This is geared toward the entire business community of King, Chamber members and non-members.

Potential  members of council are asked their thoughts and plans for sustaining local businesses and recruiting new ones. How will you deal with issues that businesses have and will you make yourself available to the business owners in your ward?

Chamber president Tom Allen will moderate the event. Each candidate will receive up to 5 minutes to speak, with regards to the business community. The public is then given 1 minute to ask a question, of one or all candidates. Candidates have 3 minutes to answer.

Because of the number of candidates, organizers are asking that you keep your speeches  and answers, short and to the point.

There will be a table for campaign material and you can bring a small sign if you wish.

If you have any question please feel free to contact the Chamber at 905-717-7199 or info@kingchamber.ca.
