By Mark Pavilons Even though the number of show cars dropped a little this year, due to the inclement weather, the number of visitors remained strong. In all, just under 10,000 people visited the King site of Tim and Brenda's Cruise for the Cure, held July 20. A total of 2,800 vehicles rolled through the gates. A total of 658 show cars participate in the event, which was a major fundraiser for both the Alzheimer's Society of Ontario and Prostate Cancer Canada. Each charity received a cheque for $50,000. As well, an estimated 3,000 people lined up to meet Danny “The Count” Koker and Kevin Mack from the hit TV show “Counting Cars. One of the unique highlights of this year's event was the auction of a rare 1994 Gibson J-55 guitar that bears more than 25 signatures of famous rock icons. The high bidder ($6,500) was Helga Schmidt from ABC Group of Companies, the event's main sponsor. Many positive comments were received from visitors and the contributions made to the two main charities is simply “awesome.” Plans are already in the works for the 2015 edition of the Cruise. |
