Championship title decisions have begun with the first being awarded in the Monday night men’s league of King Curling Club.
After the 20-team roster battled through the round robin series, the final two were determined.
Teams Davis and LaPlante were matched up for the championship title in the highly anticipated end-for-end game.
The energy and excitement was felt rink wide, as one team would be playing to be the next league champions while the other would be playing to defend their title. After giving up 5 points early in the opening ends, Skip Jody LaPlante and his team of Larry Sheardown (spare for Dave Barber), Peter Kamstra and Dan Steenhoek scrambled to find the broom and struggled to find the right weight.
Skip Karl Davis and his team of Steve Broad, Gary Boose and Joe Dunato, last year’s club champions, played a solid, patient game.  Setting up the rings and lining their rocks tight to the centre line made draws to the button tough for Team LaPlante.
The story began to change mid-way through for LaPlante and his boys who found the rings and the scoreboard, allowing them to battled back after 6. With a chance to tie the game, team LaPlante reformed with new energy for a last crack at the title.  The Davis team could now only stand back and wait as the possible final throw of the season descended down the white sheet of ice.
The rock looked like it had the right draw weight but as the blue, 12-foot ring got closer and closer, the glimpse of a title got further and further. The rock curled a pound too far securing a Davis 10-9 championship win.

Ladies League

Tuesday night ladies league has also wrapped up their schedule for another year as Team Bones, skipped by Fran Bones, vice Debbie Johansson, 2nd Cheryl Hamilton and lead Tamara Niepage finished on top in the field of 8 ladies teams.
A final “fun” night with a tag-team format game will complete the Rockettes’ season before hanging their brooms and pulling out their clubs.
A special thank you to league convenor Julie Oakley, for another successful ladies curling season.
The Mixed Team Entry as well as the club’s Social leagues will also be concluding this week with their playoff schedule to determine league champions and consolation winners.
The final week of King Curling will surely be exciting right down to the last rock thrown and the handshakes given bringing the season to its end.
