Scarecrows descend on Schomberg

Schomberg will see an influx of visitors this weekend, but they’re a little lifeless.
The Schomberg Village Association presents its 8th annual Schomberg Scarecrow competition.
It began in 2006 and has become a very popular family event, and now many other activities in Schomberg  occur on that same weekend. The 5th annual Street Gallery takes place this weekend, too.
The competition is fun for all, and people enjoy making them especially if they do it together as a group of family or friends and neighbours. The scarecrow can be made of any medium, and a wonderful way to advertise a business, group or organization or just be anything made by an individual or family. The only limits are your imagination.
There are prizes to be won, but most important are bragging rights, and if you are a winner of the family category you have the honor of turning on the Christmas lights on Main Street, the week before the annual yuletide celebration, “A Main St. Christmas.”
There is plenty of “how to” information on the website, and it really doesn’t take that long to make one. Two people can create a masterpiece in a matter of hours.
There are also many photos for inspiration and ideas on the website.
Official judging is on Saturday morning and winners will be decorated by early afternoon and prizes given and announced at the Community Bonfire at approximately 7.30 p.m. on Saturday. There is also a People’s Choice award where visitors can vote for their favourite, until 5 p.m. on the Sunday. Look for the orange boxes on Main Street.
Hope you join in and make this the best scarecrow competition yet! Make a scarecrow, view the other scarecrows and vote for your favourite!
To register yours visit or visit the Schomberg Library. Call Cheryl Fisher at 905-939-8494 for full details.
