Smiles, laughter, hugs, shared memories and tears were the order of the day, as former students from S.S. # 4 – Strange Public School and former residents of Strange and Laskay gathered together for a reunion Saturday. For some, it was the first time they had reunited in over 50 years. It had been quite a task using a find people search to locate and get in touch with everybody who had fallen off the radar, but it was well worth it to see how pleased everybody was to be reunited once again.
The wonderful event was held at the Laskay Hall and close to 100 people came and went throughout the day, enjoying each other's company as well as the amazing food that everyone brought and shared.
A pilgrimage was made by several of the former Strange students, walking from the Hall in Laskay up to the little, two-room school, one more time. As in the old days, they all held hands for safety as they crossed the ominous King Road – even though it now has stop lights that were not there 50 years ago when kids made that trek each day! Participants exclaimed as they looked around that the only thing that was the same is the big, old oak tree that still stands at the back of the property.
The reunion was a resounding success and ended with a promise that they will gather together again very soon and not wait another 50 years.
Many, many thanks go out to organizer Gloria Dalton, for all the work she did to make this happen.
